Is your brain holding you back?

Is Being Neuro-Divergent Holding You Back?

I’ve heard my clients say, “My OCD’s taken over again – but it can do that.” as they tell me what’s happened this week. The general feeling being one of helplessness to overcome the urge to whatever.

Same thing happens with ADHD where, for example, disorganisation can cause frustration when they don’t achieve what they set out to do.

I have a suggestion.

You’ve got enough on your plate dealing with the delays or chaos caused by your condition without also being cross or frustrated with yourself. So, why not embrace it, go along with it?

Welcome it into your morning. Enter into friendly dialogue with it. Ask it what it wants from you or why it’s there? Allow it to be separate from you. Don’t resist it being there, and see what happens.

This is gently putting back in control of your space and your life. Make a decision that it affects you lightly and only when you decide to let it. Don’t add a negative emotion on top. Be happy with yourself instead.

Take back control

As soon as you notice the signs, deep breath, and don’t resist it. You may find the checking can relax too. Have a plan to divert your attention. You’ll be less affected by being disorganised when you set you mind to being ok with it.

Making peace with any condition is the first step to regaining control over it. Contact me for help with this.
