I am delighted to confirm that I am now a registered practitioner of the BLAST® Technique.
The Technique has been developed by respected UK psychotherapist, Nick Davies, to help clients suffering as a result of trauma or PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). I was becoming increasingly frustrated about how traditional treatments can take a long time to have any effect for some clients or can have mixed results. Inspired by some amazing feedback from the people Nick has worked with, I was keen to learn how to use BLAST myself.
So how does it work? For most of us, sensory information is passed between the left and right hemispheres of our brain. If that information does not contain anything traumatic, the information is processed and stored in our memory. However, in sufferers of trauma or PTSD, neuroscience research has shown that the right hemisphere of the brain becomes overactive, preventing the normal processing of a situation and the memory of it. As a result, the smallest of things in everyday life can trigger a response as though that trauma was happening again. These experiences can be expressed as flashbacks, intrusive thoughts and nightmares.
The BLAST Technique helps clients to revisit their traumatic experience whilst stimulating normal communication between the hemispheres of the brain. This allows the brain to reprocess the experience in a ‘normal’ way, allowing the individual to understand what happened and remember it, but without the same physical or emotional response. There are case studies which show PTSD has been altered in just one session using this technique.
I am excited to be able to offer my clients this practical solution that works. The Technique doesn’t require any personal contact, which can be reassuring for some and which also means it can be offered online. All BLAST Technique practitioners are registered and have a unique registration number: mine is BL16274.
